Jim and Gwen Arrigon have been full time professionals in the horse business since college, best know as the long time coaches of Miami University of Ohio, where they ran the largest physical education riding program in the nation, and coached a team that finished annually in the top five of six places in the nation.  Jim has been a National Champion College Equestrian Coach for over 20 years, and has served as an officer of the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association for nearly that long.  Jim was a collegiate rider himself, graduating from the University of Kentucky, then coached at Murray State University and Miami University of Ohio, where he coached over two dozen team and individual National Championships.  He received the 2005 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association, the highest coaching honor in the IHSA.  He left Miami in spring 2005 after seventeen years, then coached the Ohio State University to their only National Championship appearance and an individual National Championship in 2006.   He has coached six National Champion collegiate riders in the past five years.  Jim and Gwen now coach a team for Xavier University

in Cincinnati

.  They also coach a nationally competitive high school team that has produced NCAA scholarship riders for

Kansas State, Fresno State, Oklahoma State, Cornell, SMU.  They also coach riders of all ages for hunter/jumper shows. 

 

Business Manager:

Gwen Arrigon is the president of Beckett Run Inc., the management company responsible for “Equestrian Talent Search”, “Tournament of Champions” collegiate shows, and many other Ohio Hunter Jumper Association and other shows.  Beckett Run is also a very busy teaching, boarding, and show stable in the

Cincinnati suburbs of Hamilton, Ohio

.  Gwen also coaches both Xavier University in the IHSA, and Beckett Run Equestrian in the IEA, and is Zone Director for IEA.  

 

Beckett Run is built on the 1835 estate of the Beckett family, owners of the Beckett Manufacturing Company, known later as the Beckett Paper Company of Hamilton.   We began with an old house and a lot of bushes, weeds and piles of dirt (it used to be a tree nursery) in 1993, and have built it into a full time business, including...

  • 20 acres or good pasture, divided into three grassy turnouts and two additional drylots
  • 110' x 270' outdoor lighted arena with good footing and great drainage.  There is always a full set of jumps with gates, flowers, etc. 
  • Indoor arena with great, dustless footing, good lights, etc.  We use it mostly during the winter months, when it has a full set of jumps with flowers, etc at all times.
  • Main stall barn with 12' x 10' stalls with matted floors, concrete aisleway, separate boarder tack room, heated trunk / viewing room, wash stall, etc.
  • Additional shed row barn, with stalls available for rental for shows.

Matt Arrigon grew up in the business, and coached the Beckett Run Equestrian Team for a couple years before moving to Virginia this year.  A 2007 business grad of Miami University, Matt now coaches his own collegiate team at Lynchburg College in Virginia, and rides professionally.

Hallie Arrigon is a graduate nursing student at Vanderbilt University, Nashville Tennessee, and was the captain of the Vanderbilt equestrian team this year.
